  • Access Rights: The draft stipulates that Californians can request detailed information on how their data is being used for AI, which pushes for greater algorithmic accountability.

  • Risk-Based Approach: The CPPA's method aligns with the EU's AI Act, focusing on areas with higher risks associated with AI decision-making processes.

What does this mean: Adtech companies, such as Meta, would be significantly affected as they might have to change how they collect and utilize data for targeted advertising, potentially reducing their data pool. These firms would also be obligated to clearly communicate their use of AI before applying it, which could lead to higher compliance-related expenditures.The ability for Californians to request details on AI data usage would also require businesses to develop sophisticated systems to furnish such information, further adding to operational expenses.
